Welcome to our website for the 2024 FAAA election.

Today the opposing candidates put out a FB post suggesting that Teri O’Toole had spent money in a wasteful, manner and made bad financial decisions.

Lets talk the truth

1) Peter and his team believe that a Secretary should share YOUR working conditions - Which airline Peter ? We represent every airline in Australia from Network Aviation in Perth , to Alliance in Adelaide , Perth and Brisbane. What about Virgin conditions ?, do you work under those Peter , or do you or your team even know them ? This team for the first time in FAAA history represent every member equally

2) Peter has said a Secretary that flies is important - however Peter was elected with Michael Mijatov and he did not fly for the period he was in his role, and Peter supported that why is he so against Teri? Peter also did not sit on ANY committee representing members during his time as an elected official , so where is his experience, he also never negotiated a EBA, again so where is this experience.

3) Leave Bank has been withdrawn so no ability for any elected official to be in the office of the FAAA unless they take leave without pay for the 4 years or resign . Surely if you are putting your hat in the ring you would have taken the time to know that. So how can you do this serious job on days off from flying. How will he fight for members rights .

4) What Teri is being paid was a decision of the Executive - she is a Barrister and works 24/7 , her wages have been increased with her workload and her success with membership growth. If we were to try and employ Teri we could not afford her, and the members and officials think we are getting her expertise cheap.

5) Teri lives in Melbourne and commutes to Sydney - she lived in Melbourne when she was elected and crew knew this. She has never missed a meeting or failed to turn up . She does disciplinary meetings in all bases representing members and this is just attacking someone for where they live. She has been more effective than any other leader regardless of where she resides and the opposition team all live in Sydney so what about BNE and MEL members ?

6) Teri delivered the worst conditions ever in EBA11 - Teri did not deliver anything - the company put out EA11 and the FAAA did not support this as it is the agreement you have now - Qantas moved to terminate and the FAAA were forced into not running a NO campaign or QF would have withdrawn and gone to termination. This continued blaming of a single person is plain nasty by those who are spreading this and shows they are not fit to hold office where honesty and integrity is important.

7) During Covid the FAAA did reduce fees for covid relief moving it to $5 and for those who got jobs with the government during covid we reached a deal with CPSU and SDA and the FAAA were able to keep members attached to the FAAA so that when they did come back to flying they had continuity of membership. They paid less than if they had joined the other unions To suggest differently is again simply false.

8) Teri dismantled the unified FAAA - The entire elected official group both long haul and short haul made the decision to revoke the rules that Michael Mijatov had written and obviously Peter was a part of, these rules would have handed over all of the money that the International Division held to short haul , and no one on the elected teams believed that was fair. No membership funds were wasted as the new unified rules were in fact written in house by Teri and our legal staff. The new unified rules were agreed to by the Federal Council and are fair and have worked to building trust and positive results - Again Peter why the fake news where are your facts and plans rather than personal attacks .

9) the kitchen was renovated as part of a building renovation that was necessary to accomodate the additional offices for the Industrial Officers we employed to take care of Members interests - Peter has stated that it was Italian Marble , however it was composite stone - and less than $ 3,500 and was the best wearing in a high traffic environment. This renovation was approved by the Executive of the FAAA

10) Better work conditions ? What about EBA 10 - Peter can you explain - Reduced slip Payments ? Unlimited Part time for QCCA ? Introduction of 75% part time ? Additional Hourly Pay ? Boundary extensions for SYD MEL bases , The ability to ALT pax from any state and even using Jetstar, And so much more !!! How is Peter forgetting the very things that have benefitted him and all QCCA crew - sorry but these are the FACTS !!

WE have built a strong union , we give members EP study guides , we provide APPs to help you in your work life, we answer your questions and give 24/7 support ....

and finally Peter did you vote for EBA 11 along with the 85% of cabin crew that made the choice because they knew it was that or the Modern Award .

This is a website for YOUR current officials and members to answer questions and to tell the truth about where we are, where we have been, and where we are heading.

There will be lots of information spread around history that you may not have been here for. So please, come and ask, and we will tell you the FACTS!

The current team have a proven record and none of these things were available before we did our first EA. So, if you enjoy any of the following it was because of our fighting for you:

  • Preferential Bidding (port, aircraft type, days away etc for Part 2)

  • Getting a Reduced Slip Payment

  • Being able to swap one way

  • Being able to drop pay protection, not being PP for the entire bid period (42 days) when you have been sick,

  • Being able to go part time (as only 30+ positions for QCCA)

  • We introduced 75% for all crew

  • Introduced AHP - additional hourly pay

  • Transfer lists

  • Increased transport entitlements for 330 flying

  • The ability to ALT pax from anywhere in Australia

  • Increase on standby call out times from 90 minutes to 120 (which entitles transport both ways)

  • Increasing transport boundaries in SYD and MEL

  • A skills allowance for those on ground, increased by 295% to $85,

  • and more than 70 other changes to conditions from when QCCA started.

YES, these are some of the things Teri’s team have achieved. What have the other candidates done for you?

Change because some QALs are blaming the union for a decision between the Modern Award and EBA11 - there was no third choice! And just remember if the EBA had been terminated, there would be NO last on first off provision, so who would Qantas have gotten rid of? The most expensive first. More than 2000 ground handlers were sacked at the same time, and it could have been crew.

Meet The Team

Teri O’Toole

Current Federal Secretary

I have had the honour and privilege of leading the FAAA over the past 8 years .

When I came to office I promised we would be transparent and give you choices and we have done that. I made my social media account available to you and carried the emergency phone 24 hours a day since 2016 and been the most accessible Secretary of any Union in the country.

We have had the most challenging times since covid closed down our industry and we led the charge to protect cabin crew here are some of the achievements from this experienced team.

  • We pushed for Aviation Keeper after Job Keeper finished so Cabin Crew continued to be paid .

  • We provided references for crew trying to find employment and created a FB page for JOBS , so crew could see opportunities , and the crew lounge which helped crew stay connected , with tools and calculators for stand down.

  • We ensured that crew with Covid had hotels if they could not isolate at home.

  • We lobbied the Government for major change to the ability for companies to terminate enterprise agreements at will , and we were successful .

  • I represented Cabin Crew and small unions as a ACTU delegate to the Jobs and Skills Summit 1-2 September 2022 at Parliament House.

  • We lobbied for the Current changes to the Fair Work Act including The Closing the Loopholes Act, which covers Same Job Same Pay and casual rights .

  • Represented Cabin Crew during the Senate Enquiry in Closing the Loopholes, and had an influence on the final decision with our evidence.

  • We unified the two divisions of the FAAA and created a strong Union for all Cabin Crew in Australia. The FAAA is more secure than at any time in our history. Our membership has recovered from Covid and new members are joining daily.

  • I sit on the ACTU representing small unions - which allows access to the vast trade union resources available and allows promotion of Cabin Crew Issues .

  • I have, after the Election of a Labor Government and pending Industrial Law changes, successfully negotiated the Virgin, Network, Qantas Domestic and Qantas Short Haul EAs and currently I am in the Alliance negotiations for 5 states with my outstanding and experienced team.

I would also add that when Qantas removed the ability to use Leave Bank for the FAAA officials , I made the decision to leave flying, suspend my Barrister practice and focus 100% on this role , it also means that I am free to speak to the media and I can never be SILENCED by being an employee of the airline.

I have flown as Cabin Crew for around 35 years, I am involved in many Industrial forums and committees with other Unions both in Australia and around the World.

I believe we have delivered and we have made the Industry better and stronger, we ask that you trust us with SJSP and we are ready to negotiate EBA 12.

Experience is very important and at the level that I and my team are dealing it is essential over the next four years. We can’t afford to get this wrong too much is at stake !

On a final note there are unhappy crew who blame me personally for EBA11 , this is unfair and untrue . The law allowed Qantas to do what they did and we did everything in our power to keep as many things as we could . It is important to remind QCCA members that you could have been placed on the modern award and have had none of the current conditions you have , and for the QAL crew you would have lost the top up pay. The outcome was decided by members and they voted for this. If the FAAA or myself had told members to vote NO Qantas made it clear they would remove the EBA 11 offer and move to the termination application.
